Event Activation: The Future of Co-Created Events?
As we look to the future of co-created events, we ask: what will the new normal look like, and how might we gather in ways that embody the ethos of Burning Man?
2020 has required flexibility and imagination to bring people together. Black Rock City, and nearly all of the 100+ officially recognized Burning Man Regional Events have been cancelled, postponed or reconfigured. Yet co-creative thinking solutions are emerging. In this call, we will discuss recent solutions, and explore the possibilities of future co-created events. Our innovating guest speakers will share their experiences, and the approaches their communities are taking to COVID-era gatherings in the spirit of Burning Man’s 10 Principles.
Ignacio “Nacho” Roizman and Mariano Rodriguez Ribas:
Burning Man Regional Contacts located in Argentina. Their local community project, No Al Deprecamp TV, is a co-created online system allowing any community member to create and share events.
Tara “Mockingbird” Fischer
Burning Man Regional Contact located in Seattle and Vice President of arts non-profit, Ignition NorthWest. The Seattle Multiverse Actual Reality Trek project connects the community through a safe, low-tech “enhanced reality” adventure in the streets of Seattle.
Heather “CameraGirl” Gallagher
Former Head of Technology for Burning Man Project and mixed reality experience designer. Heather will share her thoughts on what could unfold next for the creation of community events fostering meaningful connection.
The hosts for this conversation are $teven Ra$pa, Associate Director of Community Events and a founding member of the Regional Events Committee, and Justin Katz, Kindling and Community Events Executive Producer. The panel discussion will be followed by an optional breakout session with each of the speakers.
What are Global Activation Community Calls?
This call is part of a series highlighting community projects across the network and fostering conversations around Burning Man Global Activation Areas. Roughly every other week we plan to host a different community conversation rotating around these subject areas: Art Activation, Civic Activation, Community Activation, Ecosystem Activation, Event Activation, and Grant Activation. These calls will be a mix of formal presentation and community participation. All are welcome to join, please share this free offering with your networks and friends. The calls will be recorded, and available for future viewing.
